Japan Has Finalized Support For TSMC’s New Japanese Base
Jun 02, 2021
According to related reports, Japan’s Ministry of Industry and Economy will provide half of the total construction cost (approximately 37 billion yen). More than 20 Japanese companies, including Ibiden, participated in the development of cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing technology. The construction of a pilot production line will be started at the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture after the summer of 2021.
It is expected to start formal research and development in 2022. TSMC, which is leading the world in terms of miniaturization, is striving to establish a "three-dimensional packaging" technology in which semiconductors are stacked vertically in order to achieve further integration and high performance at its Japanese base. TSMC will use the advantages of Japanese companies in materials and manufacturing equipment.
