BASF Has Joined Hands With Sinopec To Expand Production Capacity In Nanjing Base

German chemical giant BASF announced that its 50-50 joint venture yangzi Petrochemical and BASF LTD (BASF) has expanded its neopentyl glycol production capacity.


Neopentyl glycol is a unique polyol, which is an important raw material for the production of polyester fiber resin.Polyester fiber resins are used in the production of coatings, unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins, lubricants and plasticizers.

The plant, located in the Yangzi Petrochemical BasF world-class integrated base in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, was put into operation in 2015 with an annual capacity of 40,000 tons and a total annual capacity of 80,000 tons upon completion of the expansion.


BASF officials said the expansion was mainly due to the rapid growth of demand for high-quality neopentyl glycol in China and the rest of Asia, and also in line with the development trend of environmentally friendly powder coatings based on low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
